CHW Announces Legal Scholarship Awards

August 2010

The Partners of Cox Hallett Wilkinson (CHW) are pleased to announce that they have awarded legal scholarships for 2010 to Melanie Fullerton, Janine Carey, Sarita Ebbin, Arion Mapp and Roger Moniz.  In addition, a special award was presented to Celia Tuzo.

Miss Fullerton is currently pursuing an LL.B (Hons) and will begin the second year of her studies having transferred from the University of Manchester to BPP Law School in Manchester. Miss Carey has successfully completed an LL.B (Hons) at The University of Birmingham and embarks on the Legal Practice Course, at The College of Law (Birmingham) in September.  Miss Ebbin, a previous CHW Scholarship winner, begins her third year of an LL.B (Hons) at Brunel University whilst Mr. Mapp and Mr. Moniz both start their legal degrees at the University of Kent and the University of Birmingham, respectively.

The Partners of CHW were also pleased to present Miss Celia Tuzo, a staff member of CHW for over eight years, with a special award in the amount of $25,000 to assist her with continuing her legal studies at the University of Kent.

The CHW Scholarship Committee consisted of Mr. David G. Cooper (Partner), Mr. Kim White (Partner), Ms. Janice Gutteridge (Associate) and Mr. Kai Musson (Associate). The Committee were very impressed with the calibre of the students applying this year and were pleased to be able to recognise the achievements of the recipients to date and to assist them with their further studies.

David Cooper, commented: “We are delighted that CHW continues to be at the forefront of the development of young Bermudian attorneys.  We believe that the firm’s scholarship programme is a perfect way for us to develop strong connections with law students whilst at the same time giving them the opportunity to understand the firm, its attorneys and what a career in law really means.

We are sincerely pleased to have been able to assist our own Celia Tuzo who has worked as a secretary and paralegal in the legal field for over twenty years.  With this experience she is now taking the next step towards a full professional qualification, coincidentally at the same time as her own daughter, Elizabeth, starts her studies at Temple University in the United States.

The development of Bermudian talent is key to the ongoing growth and success of the firm.  We congratulate our 2010 Scholarship winners.
